Colour is knowledge.
(Donald Judd)
Colour is not an easy matter.
(Umberto Eco)
When we open our eyes, we experience colours. All we experience around us with our eyes is colour vision.
It directly or subconsciously affects our senses. Colour can be perceptible, phenomenological and cognitive, it can be conceptual.
Colour can also be a shape. Colour can be an experience. Colour is a story. Colour is a format.
Colour is a goal. Colour is a basis. Colour is a phenomenon. Colour is an idea.
The origin point of the exhibition is discussions about colour with the company AkzoNobel which works with colour as a material i.e. paint on a daily basis.
Out of the conversations, the idea grew of putting together a group exhibition of artists who use colour in their work.
The exhibition seeks to create a discussion of how different contemporary artists think of colour in their work.
And how to think about colour in general in the context of contemporary art.
